Almoravid emirate

A Berber dynasty (1071-1147) from Morocco that imposed Islam on west Africa as far south as Senegal before taking over Muslim Spain from the Umayyads in 1086. The name derives from al-Murabitun, a reference to the organization of warriors into groups (ribats).
