Almohad caliphate

An Islamic Berber dynasty from Morocco. They invaded Spain in 1145 but were forced to withdraw (1212), opening Spain to the Christians. The dynasty had begun as a movement of reform, founded by Muhammad ibn Tumart (d.1130). At its peak (1130-63) it also controlled the Maghreb as far east as Tripoli.
