Allied powers (World War II)

Victorious opponents of the Axis powers: principally Great Britain and France (Sept 1939), the Soviet Union (after June 1941) and the USA (after December 1941). The British dominions of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India also made a significant contribution to the Allied side. Numerically and materially superior to the Axis, the Allies also cooperated more effectively. The Yalta and Potsdam conferences laid the foundations of the postwar world, but Allied cooperation broke down from 1945.
