Albigensian Crusade

A 20-year series of campaign launched by Pope Innocent III in 1208 after the murder of a papal legate, and intended to extirpate the Cathar heresy from southwestern France. Northern French barons invaded the Languedoc and confiscated territory. The wars ended the independence from the French crown of the county of Toulouse, but they had little effect on heresy.
