Alans

Sarmatian pastoral nomad tribe from the Black Sea steppes, first recorded in the 1st century AD raiding the Persian empire. In the late 4th century they were driven westward by the Huns. They entered the Roman empire in 406; some settled in Gaul, others became closely associated with the Vandals and migrated to southwest Spain and north Africa.
