Alamo, Battle of the

(23 February-6 March 1836) Battle in the Texan War of Independence. Texas' American settlers rebelled against Mexico, and the Mexican president, Antonio de Santa Anna, besieged the Alamo Mission in San Antonio, killing 180 Texans. Texas secured independence at the Battle of the San Jacinto River.
