Akhenaten

Egyptian pharaoh (r.1353-1335 BC), also known as Amenophis IV, who reacted against the power of the priests at the sacred city of Thebes by establishing a monotheistic religion based on Aten, the sun disk. He set up a new capital at Akhetaten (now known as el-Amarna). After his death the old gods were restored.
