Acheulian

Cultural tradition of the Lower Paleolithic period that originated in Africa and spread to Europe with Homo erectus populations, about 1.5-0.2 million y.a. The Acheulian is distinguished by the use of hand-axes, multipurpose animal butchery and processing tools with a continuous, sharp working edge and a tapered or pointed end that were designed for piercing, chopping, cuĂ–tting and scraping.
