Map: The Expansion of the Mughal Empire
In the April issue of History Today, Jeremy Black explores the two 16th-century battles of Panipat, conflicts little-known in the West but ones that were pivotal in the emergence of the Mughal Empire as the dominant power of northern India.
To set the scene, above is a map showing the expansion of the Mughal Empire in the 16th century, when it ruled across much of what is now north India, Pakistan, and as far as Kabul and Kandahar in present-day Afghanistan. Click on the map to view a larger version.
Read Jeremy's piece, The Mughals Strike Twice, in the April issue of History Today, out March 22nd.
