Historians and academics gathered at the Museum of the Order of St John in Clerkenwell, London last night for the annual History Today party and the  presentation of the Longman-History Today book prize. Click on the image above to see a slideshow of photographs from the event.

The award went to Craig Koslofsky’s Evening’s Empire (Cambridge), a study of the Enlightenment’s ‘conquest of the night’. The book was described as ‘methodologically bold and brilliantly original’ by the judges Jeremy Black, Taylor Downing, Juliet Gardiner, Miri Rubin and Paul Lay.

The trustees’ award for a major contribution to history went to Gordon Campbell, Professor of Renaissance Studies at the University of Leicester, editor of OUP’s quatercentenary edition of the King James Version of the Bible and the author of Bible: The Story of the King James Version 1611-2011 (OUP). Cecilia Mackay and Caroline Hotblack shared the picture research prize, while Richard Lowe-Lauri of Durham University won the prize for best undergraduate dissertation.
