The History Today Podcast: November 2011
In this month's edition of the History Today Podcast:
- Colin Jones (Queen Mary, University of London) is the author of The Other Cheek, the cover feature in the November issue of the magazine, in which he explores the history of a collection of obscene caricatures of Madame de Pompadour. Colin talks about how he came across these little-known drawings and what they reveal about contemporary views of Louis XV's mistress.
- David Wilson, the great nephew of Edward Wilson, who accompanied Captain Scott on his ill-fated Terra Nova expedition, discusses a recently rediscovered collection of photographs taken during the expedition, published for the first time in The Lost Photographs of Captain Scott. How did the photos become lost and why has it taken so long to publish them?
- Tim Grady is the author of Germany's Jewish Soldiers in the current issue of the magazine, about Germany's attempts to remember the contributions made by its Jewish combatants in the First World War. He talks about how Germany's Jewish soldiers were remembered during the Nazi regime.
